Calling All Saviours
Posted on | March 27, 2008
Is this my new Messiah? My Civil Rights leader that will bring me to freedom from the
chains that bind?
God I hope so.
I’m on this new pill. Champix. It’s supposed to be the be all and end all of quitting smoking and God do I want to stop.
It’s not just the health matters (though that’s huge), it’s not just the stench it brings to my clothes or the yellow stains on my teeth.
I’ve worked it out and if it’s, say, $65.00 a week, that’s $130.00 every two weeks, then you’re looking at $195.0o every three weeks and finally, if my math is right that’s $260.00 a month! "How is my Math? Please call 555-7575".
That’s a lot of DVD’s I could buy.
Freddie Mercury’s voice is bellowing in my head, "I want to break free!"
Now there are potential side effects. Nausea. Sleepless nights.
And in the rarest of occasions, complete mental collapse. So if I start dry humping trees, I’m to stop.
Friends are appalled, family is disgusted. Hell, I’m even thinking I’m giving Rufus cancer from second hand smoke. He’s got a worse smokers hack than I do!
And now that I’m single, it’s going to open some potentials who are so mortified by the cancer sticks. I mean, I read all the time, "GWM - non smoker, U B 2".
I start tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Hey Robert!
In reading about your delemma I must share a close story to me. My father, smoked over 20 years had decided to stop. He did the “Laser threatment” (The clinic in Barrie) and I must say he has still NOT smoked since before x-mas. I’m telling you man, this man was going through a pack a day. If you want the info I would more than love to support you! Let me know and I can get the info for you. The treatment itself is not that bad. And He was hanging around other people that smoked within the next week after the first treatment. I think the cost is like $200.00? So a much better alternative than those pills. Let me know what you think…
Love ya!

Hey Amanda. Well I’m gonna try the pills. I’ve had four friends who’ve said it’s the miracle cure. LOL, I only had to pay six bucks. I’ll try that before the 200.00. But IF these don’t work? I’M CALLING YOU!~~~~

Hey Robert. We just got our prescriptions yesterday but are not starting it until next week (not filling them to next week) . We were told that the first package of pills or the start kit which is for two weeks was roughly 59.00. After that I think it runs maybe 120.00 per month according to our Dr’s nurse who is on Champix. She said it cost her roughly 48.00 every two weeks and she gets a bit of a discount so if it was 60.00 every two weeks (for people who don’t get a discount) that’s like a carton of cigs every two weeks, you still would have been spending the money on smokes. But I don’t think it ’s 65.00 a week closer to say 30.00 a week. But I could be mistaken, we didn’t check with the pharmacist on the cost per month, only on the start up kit.

Well that’s what I was told too BUT my health insurance covers it, so it cost me like $5.95. I got WAY lucky on that.

Well I wish I had your insurance, ours only covers 80% of the cost and we have to pay everything up front and then submit receipts and get reimbursed for it.
We can have our own little support group, the Dr said it most people didn’t have a problem with the cravings it was the oral fixation part that gave them problems, hmmmm wonder what I can substitute for that problem LOL.

Well I’ll only join the group if I start to lose anymore of my mental faculties.

Hey Robert,
You saw my husband out the other night at Pegasus, and I thought I’d stop by and take a look at your blog. I just wanted to offer some encouragement on the quitting smoking. I just passed my third month. I quit right after Christmas. Luckily I got a bad cold, so I just threw a patch on, and when the cold was gone, I was smoke-free.
I did that about five years ago, too, and remained smoke-free for a couple of years. You’ve just got to stay away from the first cigarette. It’s all downhill after that.
Good luck, you can do it!
Hugs
Michael
