“And That Bitch Anne Murray Too!”

Please watch…
Believe me, I’d had plenty to say right after I saw it and I was prepared with fingers at the keyboard, ready to strike.
At first I was blown away at the insensitivity of the broadcast. Still am, to be honest.
But having time to have watch it more than once, I’m glad I took the space to sit down and write.
The only thing that really comes to mind is that it’s on Fox. This is where those who never reached past a fifth grade reading level get their news.
The host certainly knows his audience.
Being dim but trying to be clever, host Greg Gutfeld smirks his way through what is a very sensitive issue. People are losing their lives in defense of others and all they can do is crack stereotypical jokes about their neighbours to the north.
Making fun of Canada’s Lt. General, Andrew Leslie’s name ((“…an unusual name for a man.” Mr. Gutfeld is quoted as saying.)) he completely denigrates someone who is serving their country.
I’ve never gone to war. I’m sure Mr. Gutfeld has never gone to war so why would you mock someone who has? Besides, I’m sure Lt. General Leslie could kick his ass. And may I ask, what is so wonderful about Gutfeld’s last name? Sounds like an antacid product.
He goes on, again, to insult the Canadian military using homophobic comments.
“Meaning the Canadian military wants to take a breather. Do some yoga, paint landscapes. Run on the beach in gorgeous Capri pants.”
Continuing with is driveling rant, Gutfeld says, “Isn’t this the time to invade this ridiculous country?”
Now, I see where they were trying to go with this. A joke about announcing that a country’s military is taking some time off for rebooting and rebuilding is like saying to other countries….”Door’s open, fellas. Come on in!”
I get the attempt at humour but that’s all it is…an attempt.
Doug Benson, now appearing at UCB Theatre in New York City, blah blah blah, had the audacity to say, “I didn’t even know they were IN the war.” Goofy smile on his face notwithstanding, he thought he was being funny.
Ummm, yeah. No.
116 troops have lost their lives fighting in a war that was sanctioned by the U.N. 1 so, Doug, it’s not funny.
Now, we Canucks have a great sense of humour about ourselves. We really do.
I bring to mind “South Park” and their hilarious take on us. “Blame Canada” – thus the title of this blog, made me laugh and I even told Matt Stone2 I enjoyed his take on our country.
Canada, according to them, only has one road. Terrence and Phillip, with their flatulent humour, ripping apart Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, et all.
I get that most Americans don’t know us at all and that’s fine. We, for the most part, know more about them then they certainly know about us3 but this broadcast crosses a line.
I’ve said before, I know a lot of Americans and I actually love them. 4 I certainly wouldn’t lump all into a group of ignoramuses and call them all out.
My theory on Canada/U.S. relations is that we’re both blue but different shades of it.
Greg goes on to say, “Would any country be able to get away with this if they didn’t share a border with the most powerful country in the Universe?”
Well, Greg, don’t know if you know this, and you’re on Fox, so I can only assume you don’t. THE UNIVERSE IS A VERY LARGE PLACE!
The sheer and unadulterated arrogance of your statement only proves your complete and utter lack of intellect.
“Isn’t Canada doing what most of Europe does anyway which is rely on U.S.A.?” He goes on to say.
Oh it just gets better. 5
Another racist and ignorant point is from, Bill Schulz. Who says, “But what we should be worried about, Greg, is – Canada starts this, who’s our other border? Mexico. They’re gonna start relying on our army too. Remember it’s not Canada but Mexico that likes the ‘siestas’.
Let’s see…Canada, Europe and Mexico. Oh they also put in that Sara Palin should be nervous because she can see Russia from her house and shares a border with the Great White North.
So, Fox executives, congratulations on continually proving that you’re sacks of unintelligible crap bastards.
I for one will gladly pick up a shovel and help you dig the hole you’re making for yourself.
