Honeymoon’s Over Folks!

image We all knew it was coming, didn’t we? I mean the love affair had to end sooner or later, I just didn’t think it would be this soon.

Already, Republicans are calling the new King a socialist.

Ummm, well, are they surprised?  And why is “Socialist” a four letter word?

MSNBC titled an article “Obama’s new strategy: Blaming Bush for ‘mess’” stating that the President is shuffling off all the woes of the current financial situation on the past administration.

Well, DUH!  I know I would.

Here was a man1 who thrust the country into an illegal war and pushed the limits of fiscal responsibility to it’s breaking point.  In short, he and his friends got richer while everyone else is struggling just to buy food.

But “The Prez” has to balance his rhetoric in order to keep the population at ease in a terrifying time and keep the Republicans close.  Even John McCain who lost the election due to a general hatred for the Bush administration but then fell into a love affair of sorts with Obama has started flinging arrows.

Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s chief of staff, denied that the president has changed his tone toward the previous administration. He said Obama is "not trying to place blame, but he is trying to say clearly: Here’s what we’ve got and here’s our way out of it. He’s offered a positive alternative to their criticism."

"The truth is that 98 percent of his speeches are about the future, and 2 percent are about inheritance," Emanuel said. "Whereas I think for Republicans it’s 2 percent about the future, and 98 percent hope that the people have amnesia."

Maybe a little socialism is exactly what the doctor ordered!

I mean he wants to fix health care, put more money into renewable energy, education:  In short, he wants to fix the U.S.

Certainly the radical capitalism didn’t work.

President Obama isn’t blaming Bush, he’s reminding the public of the fiscal disaster that he was saddled with.

What is it about the polarizing battles between Liberals and Conservatives in the U.S.?  I guess, as a Canadian, I just don’t get it.

Maybe it’s not for me to get.

Then I was watching a piece about a Church shooting in Tennessee.   The shooter, a radical Conservative is hoping that his private war against Liberalism; which he calls “the worst problem America’s got.”

How can anyone who has a modicum of intellect2 possibly think like that?

Again, I just don’t get it.  I may not agree with my neighbour but I sure as hell aint going to go and shoot them up to silence them.

So when do people just shake hands and agree to disagree?

Canadians, for the most part3 label citizens of the U.S. with the same brush.  They’re all gun toting, hate filled war mongers.  For the most part I’ve coloured my walls with that thought.

But knowing some Yanks the way I do4, I know that’s so not true.  It’s the squeaky wheel effect.  Only this squeaky wheel was carrying a gun.

It just seems like a violent tennis match with a flaming ball going back and forth and dead centre of the court are the people netted in the cross fire.

Certainly all Republicans and Conservatives are not evil.  Certainly all Democrats and Liberals aren’t the devil.  But I’ve said this before.

It just makes me sad that in this post 9/11 society when we need to keep each others backs safe, we’re still squabbling and pointing fingers.

I would, gladly, shake the hand of a homo-hating/gun-toting Conservative if he or she agreed to put the gun down.  I don’t have to “understand” your position or your politics but I still could have respect for it.

Still doesn’t change the fact that I’m glad that the maniac who robbed two people of their existence and is spurring on a war with those who think differently will probably spend the rest of his life in jail and possibly be someone’s “bitch”.

And if he’s reading, remember…don’t drop the soap in the shower.

There’s too much and not enough to write about. I work. I love my dog. I love my family. I love my friends. Sometimes I ask too much of people and sometimes not enough. Sometimes I take things personally and sometimes I don’t. I love fun. To laugh. To be a part of something deeper than what I have and sometimes just happy to have what I have.
